Saigon culture & history
Saigon, the former name of Ho Chi Minh City and still often called Saigon, has a long history of immigration since its establishment in the 17th century. Initially a tiny fishing village, the city has grown to over 2,000 square kilometres with a population of about 7 to 9 million individuals (however, many residents still need to be registered). It is widely recognised as a centre of commerce and is Vietnam’s most thrilling city due to its bustling atmosphere. Despite its modern high-rises, the city has a rich culture and a complex history. Visitors are drawn to the city’s pagodas, museums, public buildings, parks, and boulevards. Let’s explore the more genuine and historical side of Ho Chi Minh City and its surroundings beyond the contemporary buildings.
