Details
Depart from Hanoi and head southward to Perfume Pagoda. Upon arrival, you'll embark on a local sampan and be rowed through rice fields along a gently flowing scenic waterway to the entrance. Visit Thien Tru pagoda then have a simple lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, a short transfer by cable car will bring you to Huong Tich cave, a complex of pagodas and shrines built into the limestone cliffs of the ‘Mountain of Fragrant Traces'. Including the most important Perfume Pagoda.
You’ll then be ready for 1.5-hour hiking down to the sampan stop and make your way back to the main pier. Our transfer takes you back to Hanoi.
If time permits, the car will make a stop at Vu Lang sculpture village, located 20 km from the center of Hanoi, Vu Lang is a traditional sculpture village where you can find all kinds of lively and artistic sculptures that present cultural themes and different histories. Here you can learn about the manufacturing process from the wood carving stage to the gold lacquer stage and visit a workshop where craftsmen make Buddha statues from jackfruit wood.
Then you walk through Vu Lang to Canh Hoach village. This village is known for the manufacture of bird cages. As it is not a tourist village, you will find people scattered around the village who handcraft birdcage parts with passion. Stop for a short break at a lantern workshop, meet the craftsman family, and discuss the history of the village with them while having some green tea before coming back to Hanoi. The tour is expected to finish at around 5 pm.
During festivals (Jan to Feb – lunar months), Perfume Pagoda is overcrowded and touristy with local pilgrimages. The boatmen often sell souvenirs and ask for tips after the journey. For this reason, we often terminate the tour from 15 Jan to 30 Mar.
