Full-day experience
Duration: 8h - 18h | Meal: Lunch
At 8:00 AM, our guide will pick you up from your hotel and we will begin the day by exploring Hanoi Old Quarter on foot. This bustling area of Hanoi is a maze of shopping streets and restaurants with a mix of traditional tube houses, religious buildings, artisans' workshops and cottages, colonial houses and modern concrete edifices. We will stop at Bat Dan Street for a bowl of Phở (Beef noodle soup) and then stroll out to Ly Nam De Street for a cup of arabica coffee in Vietnamese style. We will then take an unusual trail - the city railway tracks - to discover the local life around the line, which is surprisingly quiet as well. There will be enough time to visit the lovely Temple of Literature - Vietnam's first university, established in 1070 - before we take a lunch break at a Vietnamese restaurant in a hidden alley. In the afternoon, we will head to the excellent Ethnology Museum for an overview of Vietnam's 54 distinct ethnic groups and enjoy a performance of traditional Water Puppetry, an art form unique to northern Vietnam, at the museum's outdoor stage. It will be a good, light-hearted introduction to our rural culture. On the way back to your hotel, if you wish, let's stop for a bia hoi (fresh beer), a popular draft lager beer in Vietnam, or a trà chanh (lime tea) at a street-side shop. You'll see the charming chaos of Hanoi passing by. Return to the hotel at around 5 PM. This is the end of our service.
