Hanoi street dining with connoisseur through hidden alleys

Explore the rich cuisine of Hanoi with a Connoisseur! The 36 Streets of Hanoi was a vast market that has evolved over thousands of years along the Red River, as the commercial gateway of Northern Vietnam. Here, alongside long-established family businesses, are eateries passed down from generation to generation. Hanoians are particularly discerning diners and often have their favorite eateries.

This journey through Hanoi’s family-run eateries will also bring you intriguing insights into life in the Old Quarter. Don’t be surprised if your “dining spot” at the same time is the living room of a family, and you may need to navigate through narrow alleys to find the best dishes. Accompanying you will be a connoisseur, a true food enthusiast, who might be a native Hanoian, or someone who has lived in Hanoi for many years, well-versed in the best eateries within this culinary maze.

There will be no fixed menu; so let’s free to simply share your taste preferences with your guide, and they will lead you to the finest places in Hanoi to enjoy your desired dish!

*Connoisseur: She/he is a Hanoian or has lived in Hanoi for years, who has a deep passion for cuisine here. She/he is not an official food critic—just someone with a refined palate and knows the ins and outs of Hanoi’s vibrant food scene! So, he/she will know where to savor the food that you’re dreaming of.

A small tip for you: If you choose a morning experience, try breakfast like a local with pho, banh cuon, or xoi, and finish with a hot or iced coffee! For an afternoon experience, Hanoi locals typically have a snack around 5 PM with light bites, followed by dinner around 7 PM. Between culinary stops, you might take breaks at a quiet and local café, tea, or bia hoi (beer) in Hanoi, where you can have a deeper talk with your host to explore more about local life and Hanoi cuisine.
