Details
8:00 – 8:15 AM—Pick up from your hotel and head to Cai Be for a two-day, one-night trip to discover local life in the Mekong Delta.
Upon arrival in Cai Be, you'll embark on a traditional wooden boat, a unique experience that sets the tone for your journey through the Mekong Delta canals. Your first stop is Tân Phong island, where you'll have the option to cycle or walk along village paths, immersing yourself in the local daily life. You'll see orchards, schools, churches, pagodas, and traditional houses, and perhaps even learn the ancestral ways of fruit picking in the Mekong Delta. Along the way, you'll witness the fascinating process of weaving dried water hyacinth into various products like baskets, bags, hats, wallets, and shoes.
After returning to your boat, you'll cross the Mekong River, one of the world's longest rivers, to An Bình Island. Here, you'll enjoy a delicious local lunch and then have the afternoon to explore this peaceful and green island. Your cultural immersion continues as you walk through an orchard, sipping tea and listening to traditional music in an ancient house. You'll then visit local workshops to learn the traditional crafts of rice paper making, coconut candy making, and pop rice making.
Embark the boat again and head to Vinh Long City, where a comfortable air-conditioned car awaits us to drive to Vung Liem. Cross the local ferry to the enthusiastic homestay on Long Island, famous for its orchard and sedge fields and handmade products made from sedge. Check-in and make friends with the family. You will have a chance to practice making pancakes—the speciality of the Mekong people.
After dinner, we warmly engage in a cultural exchange with local people, where you can ask questions about their lives, share your own experiences, and learn about their traditions. Overnight at local house.
Prepare to be awakened by the rooster's crowing, a unique start to your day. Following a hearty breakfast, we embark on a thrilling journey to explore the island's captivating landscape, interact with its warm local community, and witness traditional occupations in action. Our adventure includes a scenic bike ride through the village, a visit to the sedge fields where the iconic sleeping mats are crafted, and an opportunity to observe the intricate process of cutting, slicing, drying, and washing these mats. En route, we pay homage to the oldest tombs of Thoai Ngoc Hau's parents-in-law, a significant figure in the Mekong Delta's history.
As we bid farewell to our local hosts and make our way back to the city, we'll take a ferry ride to Vung Liem. Here, we'll have the privilege of visiting an ancient Khmer pagoda, a sacred site first built in 632 and later rebuilt in 1377. This place is of immense cultural significance, and we encourage you to take a moment to appreciate its beauty and history. Our journey continues as we return to Vinh Long, passing through vast rice fields and witnessing the age-old harvesting process.
Our final stop is the bustling Vinh Long market in Vinh Long City. This vibrant hub is a feast for the senses, offering a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, and aromas. It's a great place to capture the essence of local life, with its variety of fish, shrimp, prawns, crabs, snakes, rice rats, tropical fruits, and vegetables. Take your time to explore and take pictures, immersing yourself in the lively atmosphere. Our tour concludes at the end of the afternoon in Saigon, leaving you with a treasure trove of memories.
