Nam Cat Tien – Wilderness Journey & Bear Care Volunteering

Suitable for everyone

Imagine waking up to birdsong deep in the heart of Cát Tiên — one of Vietnam’s last remaining lowland rainforests, and a place most visitors to Vietnam never get to see.

This two-day journey takes you far beyond the tourist trail, designed for families, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a more meaningful way to experience this country.

The highlight of the program is a rare, hands-on volunteering experience at Free The Bear, a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating bears who have suffered from the illegal wildlife trade. For half a day, you’ll work alongside conservationists, gaining an intimate understanding of what it truly takes to protect these magnificent animals — and leaving with a story worth telling.

Beyond the sanctuary, Cát Tiên invites you to slow down and immerse yourself in the wild: walking ancient forest trails, cooling off in jungle streams, and cycling through landscapes that feel worlds away from the city. As night falls, a guided night tour reveals a hidden world that comes alive after dark.

Your tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel at 9 am. It's time to beat the city traffic and head towards Đồng Nai province and Nam Cát Tiên National Park, one of the very few places in Vietnam where wildlife can still be spotted in its natural habitat. After approximately three hours on the road, you'll arrive at the park entrance and cross the Đồng Nai River into the wilderness. Check in to your accommodation inside the park — staying here is not only convenient for joining activities, but is itself a small act of support for the park's conservation efforts. Lunch is at a restaurant within the park grounds (not included in the tour price), giving you time to settle in and prepare for the afternoon ahead. Nam Cat Tien In the afternoon, beneath the shade of the forest canopy, you'll embark on a 16 km cycling journey and a 600 m walk to reach a remarkable destination: a 400-year-old Ficus benjamina tree, standing beside a crystal-clear stream rarely visited by travellers. Few travelers frequent this area, so you can take the chance to immerse yourself in this serene stream and enjoy the tranquil surroundings! *Prefer not to cycle? Your guide can arrange a car transfer for a surcharge. The afternoon can also be adjusted to a leisurely walk to ancient trees for guests who'd prefer a gentler pace — contact us for details. Nam Cat Tien National Park You will return to the park centre in the late afternoon, rest, and enjoy dinner.  Option: Night Safari Experience* Nam Cat Tien Night Safari Experience After dinner, a special experience awaits you: “night safari” to observe the nightlife of animals in the park. You will board an open-top truck and join a park ranger who will use a torch to help you see nocturnal inhabitants as they forage, including sambar deer, wild pigs, porcupines, gaur, weasels, civet cats, barking deer, mongoose, and nightjars. This rare opportunity allows you to witness wildlife up close! Though the car runs slowly and the tour guide is very knowledgeable about nature, sightings are not guaranteed, as nature can be unpredictable.  *Should you wish to partake in this exceptional tour, kindly inquire for further details & avaibility.
This morning, you'll visit the Free The Bear conservation centre, one of only three bear sanctuaries in Vietnam, alongside those near Tam Đảo and Cúc Phương national parks. Here, dedicated staff work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate sun bears and moon bears rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Your visit goes beyond observation. You'll learn about the bears' stories, help craft enrichment toys designed to stimulate their natural instincts, and watch as the bears interact with them. This is an experience not open to the general public.* By the end of the morning, you'll leave with a genuine sense of contribution to wildlife conservation in Vietnam and memories that are hard to leave behind. After lunch at the park, say goodbye to the ranger team before making your way back to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving at approximately 5 pm. *This experience can be extended to a full day at the conservation centre. Contact us for details.
